Who’s In Your Corner

Posted on 02. Mar, 2010 by Kadi in General, Relationships

In life and business, the best accessory a girl can have is her friends. Those go-to group of people who are there when things are absolutely craptastic, encouraging you to keep on trucking even down that bumpy road.  They believe and support you no matter what and are the first people to scream your triumphs from the highest peak. But finding these people can be more difficult than keeping them around.

Last year, I really learned how important having a good “tribe” was. As I struggled finding a balance with my  professional vision, the demands of clients, and of course motherhood, the girls in my corner were the ones who got me through. I am not taking away from the support my husband gave me, but these women truly understood my daily angst. They were the ones who pointed out all the fabulous things about me that I was overlooking. They encouraged me to follow my vision and really embrace what made ME happy. When I was faced with obstacles that I was sure would destroy me, my tribe would shine a light reminding me that overcoming these hurdles would lead me to the path I was meant to be on.

My tribe is made up of survivors and women who are passionate, trustworthy, and unique. My tribe is small in numbers and they have helped weed out people I thought had my back but were only there for selfish reasons.  This very site was created along side a very important member of my tribe. Kadi and I have had tests in our friendship and we have passed them with flying colors. We have very different lives in so many ways. Our passions differ as do our talents. We definitely are yin and yang, and that makes us a force to be reckoned with. We support each other and have no fear pointing out when one of us takes a wrong turn. We are honest with each other and that has allowed us to weather many storms. Another tribe member, Wendy is the person I call to be inspired to look outside the box, she challenges me, understands my workaholic nature, but still reminds me to take a break. She makes me look at simple things in a more artistic way rather than black and white. Other go to gals drive me, comfort me, and most of all just get what makes me, ME.

The one thing all these women have in common is the desire to see me happy and complete. Because of them, I now can confidently say I only work and align myself with people that hold these qualities. I no longer feel the need to work with everyone who throws me a bone and its because I have a tribe telling me it OK to be picky, its OK to say NO. These lessons and these women have allowed me to open my heart to new tribe members. Because of my tribe, I am successful and I am fabulous.

So on this second day of Girly Gazette’s launch week, we want to hear about your “tribe”. Who inspires you? Who do you turn to for inspiration and encouragement? We want to hear all about these amazing women.

XoXo

Danielle

I’ll be working on mine, too. I’m not really sure I have a “tribe”, either, but I do have a bit of a “wolfpack”!

My tribe are my fellow Bad Girl Trail Riding Club pals. We are a varitey of horse loving ladies. Many I can turn to in any circumstance and either get my trialer hauled after my truck dies or give me advice on kids, husbands or horses. Gotta love the ladies I ride with!

This is a really good post Danielle and has caused me to REALLY think about who my tribe is. I had a post written, and I have postponed writing it because I know that not everyone on there were TRULY apart of my tribe. I have had to reevaluate SO many things in my life over the past year and it has caused me to be VERY critical of who I let in my life.

I have been used. Lied to. Stolen from and called awful names. I have been betrayed by people online who I thought were friends and have learned the wise lesson that you can’t trust everyone that comes your way.

Thank you for this post. It has REALLY made me think.

    Take care,
    Shynea
